Peak Names: Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-14
Peak Names: Mountain Finder AR ("the app") is made by Gnurt. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the app. In short: the app has no account, no ads and no analytics, and it does not send your data to us.
Data the app uses on your phone
- Location. With your permission, the app reads your position from the phone to work out which mountains are around you. It is used on your phone only and is not stored.
- Camera. With your permission, the camera picture is shown with mountain names over it. The picture is processed on your phone only. A photo is taken only when you press the shutter.
- Compass and motion sensors. Used live on your phone to know where the camera points. Nothing is recorded.
- Your photos. A labelled photo is saved to your gallery only when you tap Save, and sent to another app only when you tap Share and choose one. Temporary copies are deleted by the app.
- Downloaded terrain. Terrain for the areas you download is kept on your phone so the app works without a connection. It is not backed up to the cloud. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes it.
We do not have a server for this app and we never receive any of this data.
Terrain downloads
When you tap "Download this area", terrain data is downloaded from a public data service (the Copernicus elevation data hosted on Amazon Web Services), which receives the usual technical information of any download. Nothing about you is sent to us.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, tracking or profiling.
- No sale or sharing of personal data.
- No access to your contacts, files or microphone.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If the app starts handling data differently, for example when a feature is added, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
